Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk agreed to meet in their next fight, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes Fury, said Tuesday.
"Both of them want the fight and so there'll be very little, if any, (messing) around," Arum said, according to John Dennen of Sky Sports. "So we'll be able to make that happen. I'm very, very confident. ... The fighters have both agreed to fight each other next without any interim fights."
While a specific date is not set, Arum stated the fight will happen within "the first four months" of 2023.
The two heavyweights will now seek a venue in order to finalize a pact. Arum said the U.K. remains an option - particularly Wembley Stadium - but added he's also fielding lucrative offers from venues in the Middle East.
Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) currently holds the WBC heavyweight title, while Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) possesses the IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO belts. A bout between the two would be a momentous event, with a chance to unify the heavyweight division for the first time since Lennox Lewis did so in 1999.
Usyk, the 35-year-old Ukrainian southpaw, most recently defended his titles in August, defeating Anthony Joshua via split decision.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Fury has toyed with retirement but returned earlier this month to defeat Dereck Chisora via TKO.
